FOTD: Christmas Holly Look

Hi Everyone :)

Here’s a Christmas’y look based on rosy winter cheeks and lips from the biting cold and holly green leaves.

Please excuse the wet hair again, I always try to let my hair dry naturally to avoid harsh hot temperatures (reserve that for the occasional hair straightening/curling!)

The Eyes:-

• M.A.C. eyeshadow: Juxt
• M.A.C. eyeshadow: Humid
•  Rimmel Exaggerate Liquid Eyeliner in black

The eyes are a simple green look using Juxt all over the lid and Humid in the crease and outer corner. I lined the eye with my trusty black liquid eyeliner and a lashing of black mascara.

The Lips:-

• No7 Wild Volume Lipstick: Forever Cherry

On the lips I used my bright red No7 lippy. The consistency is lovely and creamy.

The Face:-

• M.A.C. (pro) blush: Red Apple
• Illamasqua: Skin Base foundation

I wanted the cheeks to have a natural rosy flush like I’ve been it the chilly and snowy outdoors.

So that’s it! A simple Christmas-y look which (for me) is an everyday look! What sort of Christmas-y would you like to see? Go on, let me know and set me a challenge!

Until next time, MERRY CHRISTMAS! :D

Giorgio Armani: Blast of Blue

Hi Everyone! :) I was feeling rather blue yesterday… in a good way! I thought I’d try out a blue FOTD with my Giorgio Armani Eyes to kill in shade #1 Blast of Blue.

I picked this up in Sephora on my recent trip to Paris and I was in heaven! The Sephora on the Champs-Élysées is the biggest in Europe and a make-up lovers dream. I also picked up 2 Sephora eyeshadows there but I’ve not tried them yet! (I figure the longer I keep them unused the long the dream is alive XD)

(gosh I don’t look very happy do I? lol I was rather tired!)

The Eyes:-

• Giorgio Armani: Eyes to Kill in #1 Blast of Blue
• M.A.C: Fluidline in Waveline

The Eyes to Kill shadows are really amazing at staying put so I didn’t need to use a primer and skipped straight to applying it with my finger. After applying an even base I patted on a little more colour with a flat brush and blended with a fluffy brush after. To line the eye used waveline, a navy gel liner laced with gold and finished with black mascara.

The Lips:-

• Dior Addict: Ultra Gloss in #557 Empire Pink (Flash)

I used this Ultra Gloss in Empire Pink which is a gorgeous soft pink with subtle blue microglitter, sadly my photos above don’t do this gloss justice but then this look is all about the eyes.

The Face:-

• Illamasqua: Skin Base Foundation in #7
• Illamasqua: Cream Pigment in Androgen

I used my staple skin base foundation and then applied Androgen on the cheeks which is such a pretty coral colour. I blended the colour in so it wouldn’t detract from the eyes.

The Accessories:-

After the make-up was done it was time to accessorize! I just picked up this gorgeous fox print scarf  and I am totally in love with it. You can find in Next stores or online.

And there we have it! I may be blue, but I’m loving it :D

Until next time, have fun! :)

Faux Pas – Illamasqua Rubber Finish Polish

Hi Everyone! :) It’s getting colder and the nights are drawing in slowly and with the new season we see more new collections.

On my latest venture into the Illamasqua flagship store I picked up one of the new rubber finish polishes in Faux Pas.

Illamasqua: Faux Pas

“Leave your mark with bold, rich, vibrant colours. hard-wearing and chip-resistant with individual finishes from matt to high gloss. Apply two coats for intensity and use with Illamasqua Nail Base Coat and Illamasqua Nail Top Coat for the perfect finish. Talk with your hands and make a statement.” – Illamasqua website

Application:
I had no problems with application in terms of the brush, the polish is opaque but still needed a couple of coats to get rid of any balding.

Finish:
This polish has a strange semi-matte finish, The first time I tried wearing this polish I tried with a base coat and 3 coats and found it instantly chipped and was easily marked. The second time I tried the base coat, polish, base coat, polish technique as I didn’t want to use a topcoat and lose the rubber effect. It still knocks/ chips but it’s not quite as bad.

Overall:
Overall I love the colour, the finish is interesting but I’m wanting something more from it; I think I wanted more of a velvet finish (yes yes its meant to be rubber! but still)  and I was disappointed with the wear as you can see the nicks and knocks in my picture above from next day but overall this is a great Autumn polish.

  • Packaging: 4/5
  • Formula: 4/5
  • Staying power: 3/5
  • Value for money: 3/5
  • Repurchase: No

Until next time, have fun! :)

Day trip to London & Haul

Hi Everyone! :)

I was going to post this at the weekend but due to the circumstances I thought it wouldn’t be in good taste posting about shopping in London with all that was going on. The trouble in London seems to have hopefully died down now. *touch wood*.

The weekend before last I took an afternoon trip into London for a spot of shopping/window shopping at some of my favourite London haunts. It’s difficult to find certain brands in my local shopping centre and the big city has it all!

It wasn’t a huuuge haul, but here are my spoils:

First off I took a trip to Carnaby Street to check out Illamasqua, Benefit, Mac and The Make Up Store. I love to people watch around here as the clothes are stylish and everyone’s got a smile on their face.

My priority here was Illamasqua’s flagship store in Beak Street to get matched up for their new Skin Base foundation.

The store itself is gorgeous; check out this 360 tour of the Illamasqua Flagship store in the video above.

So on to the goodies! I was matched to Skin Base shade number 7. I’d been wanting to try out since it came out, it’s said to have the coverage of a BB cream without the whitening agent and SPF so the skin doesn’t flash white in photos. The MA gave me a sample of number 6 just in case 7 came out too dark and I needed to mix them until I catch some sun. I also picked up a lipstick in the shade Climax and the Pure Pigment in Furore.

Furore is described as a champagne peach shimmer but I don’t really think that description does it justice, it should be super awesome champagne peach shimmer. Used alone or layered over Illamasqua’s new cream pigment it looks stunning. The first time I saw it was on a MA in the flagship store, she had layered it over Delirium cream pigment and it made her eyes sparkle.

With my gorgeous illustrated Illamasqua shopping bag in tow it was off to the next shop!

A few tube stops away and I was off to one of London’s top department stores for beauty. I picked up a few bits from Shu Uemura and my first Eyes to Kill from Giorgio Armani.

I picked up the Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill in the shade 4 Pulp Fiction, what a cool name and an amazing metallic silver with pink laced through it.

This dudette was standing guard at the Shu Uemura counter, don’t mess with her!

The internet raves about the Shu Uemura curlers and how they are meant to be the best you can get so I finally caved and bought myself some in this perfect pink neon box. I’ll let you know how I get on with them. :)

Lastly I picked up a can of the Shu Uemura UV Under Base Mousse. As I had just picked up a new foundation without SPF and I’d recently ran out of primer I thought I should try this baby out! I’ve been using it for a few days now and at first I found it a bit strange applying a mousse to my face but getting past that this is actually a great primer. I bought this in Beige so it has a sheer beige coverage which is great to establish the initial coverage and base before I apply my foundation – I actually find I use less foundation with this primer.

That’s it for my haul, I can’t wait to test them all!

P.S. Did you spot the Totoro plushie? :3

Until next time, have fun! :D

July Favourites

Hi Everyone! :D It’s time for July Favourites. It seems July was a bit of a wash out weather-wise but come 1st August the sun is blazing!

Instagram

First up for my top monthly favourites is an app called Instagram. Yes I’m a little late to the party on this one, a friend introduced me to it but I think its fab. What is it? Well:

“It’s a fast, beautiful and fun way to share your life with friends through a series of pictures. Snap a photo with your iPhone, choose a filter to transform the look and feel, send to Facebook, Twitter or Flickr – it’s all as easy as pie. It’s photo sharing, reinvented. Oh yeah, did we mention it’s free?” - Instagram website

The filters are fantastic and its great to see my friend’s photos on the app too! If you have an iPhone I really suggest you try it out :)

Illamasqua: Medium Pencil in Vow

This pencil is a god send when I’m sick and not looking my best (of which I was sick for most of July!). I use it on my waterline and it really opens the eyes and takes away any redness- making me look human again! This shade is for lighter skin tones, so if you are looking for a pencil to use on your waterline but your skin tone is a little darker than you should check out the shade Hex.

Clarins: Crystal Balm in Crystal Coral

At first glance I thought this was a plain old lipstick when I stopped by my local Clarins counter, but on closer inspection I saw it was transparent and in fact a lip balm! I love Clarins skin care but haven’t tried any Clarins make-up before. Lisa at my local counter showed me the 3 colours which are light pink (more clear really), orange (known as coral) and red. I already own red lip balms that stain the lips and I thought the light pink one would be a waste as I have clear lip balms already, but the orange (coral!!) really stood out to me. I tried it on and when mixed with the natural colour of my lips it really does show up coral (hurrah!). It’s the perfect colour for the Summer and encourages me to keep my lips moisturised. Lisa also told me that it was limited edition AND there was a promotion on at the time, it was meant to be!

M.A.C: Blush in Style

I bought a pro pan of Style after disappointedly missing out on M.A.C My Paradise cheek powder that came out in the Surf Baby Collection ’11. My Paradise is a gorgeous peach with golden over-spray but sold out day (morning) one in my local store and online. The MA suggested to me to try out Style; it’s not as bright but it’s still a really lovely coral-peach with gold pearl.

Rimmel: Exaggerate Liquid Eyeliner in Black

This liquid liner is my staple liner product; if I’m in a rush or don’t fancy wearing gel liner I’ll reach for this in a heart beat. I have the brown and black version and use them depending on the look. I can’t stand leaving the house without at least eye liner and mascara on my eyes and the cat eye look is definitely my favourite. The brush itself it felt and stiff (although it has enough give when applying to the eye) which I find easier to achieve the cat eye I want. If I’m after a thin fine line for a cat eye then I’d use my M.A.C 210 precise eye liner brush.

So that’s it for my top 5 favourites of July, seems I’m really into the corals/peaches this summer! let me know what you’ve been loving in the comments below :)

Until next time, have fun! :D

Glossybox – July Edition!

Hi Everyone! :D Warning, image heavy post coming!

Something arrived…

My very first Glossy Box turned up yesterday, YAY! I’m So excited to start trying these products :D They come in this gorgeous pink box and wrapped up with a pretty bow (sorry it WAS a pretty bow, but I was too excited to open it!!).

Look at all those goodies, eep! :D including Illamasqua, wow!! Well this all looks great but what is Glossy Box you say? Well for £10 a month you get 5 luxury product samples (often full size!) where the overall value well exceeds the price you pay.

Our product selection is original and innovative. You can try them out in the comfort of your own home. GlossyBox enables you to try out the luxury product miniatures in your own time without the annoying interruption of sales pitches. If a product has caught your attention you can easily learn more about if from our website. If you would like to buy the product, we can direct you to an online supplier. You can also choose to provide us with product feedback, which enables us to improve and adjust the content of your next box to better suit your individual needs. You receive a GlossyDot for each completed feedback sheet. With 20 GlossyDots the next box is free. – glossybox.co.uk

Onto the products! Let’s start off with the nail polish :)

CIATE Nail Enamel:
“From the ergonomically designed bottle, the deliberately long cap for ease of use and the 250 bristle flat brush for long-lasting, full coverage: Ciate takes exceptional care to make applying their enamel colours a pleasure. Formaldehyde, dibutyl phthalate and tolene free.”

ORLA KIELY Orla Kiely Eau de Parfum:
“A charming début fragrance by the acclaimed designer, the eponymous fragrance’s light floral notes, with natural extracts of rose geranium and bergamot, are subtly balanced with fresh fig and a hint of chocolate.”

WELEDA Pomegranate Regenerating Body Oil:
“Weleda Pomegranate Regenerating Body Oil contains only pure plant oils. Rich in essential fatty acids and anti-oxidising vitamins, slather on this oil for more elastic, hydrated, smooth and supple skin. Suitable for vegans.”

ILLAMASQUA Powdered Metal in Ether:
“Powdered Metal creates anything from a subtle sheen to an extreme metallic finish on face and body. The shimmering pale gold adds radiance to bronzed skin, and highlights your skin where applied.”

Sadly the tester doesn’t come with the powder puff like a retail version but they recommend to use it with a Kabuki brush.

And last but not least…

ULTRA SUN Face 30:
“Ultrasun’s special Liposome Formula protects the skin from UV induced ageing. Apply it once a day for water restistant sun protection that moisturises, too. Perfect for face, neck, décolleté and hands, formulated without emulsifiers, fragrance or oil to reduce prickly heat.”

Overall for £10 I think this box is fantastic, the quality of the packaging alone really makes it special. The full retail price of the Illamasqua Powdered Metal is £22.50 on its own so the box is instantly worth at least double what I paid for it. My only disappointment was how long I had to wait for it; I signed up in May just after the May boxes were arriving and was told they had sold out of the June boxes so would have to wait for July. I’d say if you are considering trying Glossy Box out then sign up sooner rather than later as you may have a bit of a wait.

I’ll have a thorough test and let you now my favourites!

Until next time, have fun! :D

A Crackled Peach

Hi Everyone! :) Hope you are all well and enjoying the month of May (my birthday month, yay!)

I keep reaching for my bottle of Illamasqua Purity but I wanted to try something a bit different and thought I’d give it a bit of a twist with crackle polish and black french.

  • Illamasqua: Purity
  • Barry M: Black shatter polish
  • George: Deceit (Black)

I’m really tempted to pick up the other Barry M crackle polishes, especially the pink and blue, i’ll have to take advantage of the Superdrug 2 for £5 on Barry M polishes atm!

Talking of Superdrug, don’t forget to pick up the new beauty card, it’s like the boots advantage card where you collect a points from your purchases and you can even get 10 points per pound online.

P.S. Don’t forget to check out my blog sale!

Until next time, have fun! :D

Illamasqua: Purity

Hi Everyone :) I just recently “discovered” Illamasqua after seeing Scarab and Viridian swatches a while back and with their Spring/Summer line Toxic Nature released I thought it was about time to check them out.

Illamasqua is the product of a heady mix of influences. Its roots stem from the dark and illicit 1920s club scene, and combine a rich heritage in the manufacture of make-up for film and theatre. It also takes inspiration from members of the ‘alternative scenes’ for whom self-expression is paramount. Alternative cultures have always dared to be dramatic. They have an emotional attachment to making up. It’s an expression of their darker side, a release for their alter ego.

Application:
This polish is super opaque, what a dream! It took me 2 coats for an even finish without bald spots. The only thing is I felt like the brush was a little on the slim side.

Finish:
A gorgeous fully opaque peach creme.

Overall:
I really do love this colour and I know that when i’ve worn it twice in a row. It’s a sweet peachy colour so perfect for Spring.

  • Packaging: 8/10
  • Formula: 8/10
  • Staying power: 7/10

Until next time, have fun! :D
