Favourites of the month

February Favourites

Well this month has just flown by, even WITH the extra day this year!

What have I been using a lot this month? Well Let’s see…

Estée Lauder Modern Mercury Liner: BLACK QUARTZ

I’ve been reaching for this liner A LOT this month. Considering it’s dark grey/black metallic shade and not a true black seems strange to be for everyday use but its the brush itself and the shimmer that keeps drawing me back in. The tip is a slim felt and I generally find them easier to use than the slim brushes. This was from the A/W ’11 Modern Mercury collection and I believe limited edition.

OPI: Save Me

I’m seriously in love with this polish right now- it’s even taken centre stage over swatching my Nfu Oh holographic polishes!! (don’t worry they are coming soon when i’ll also be trying out something to extend the wear by them considerably!!)  With its mixture of microglitter and blue and holographic string glitter this makes for one of the most unusual glitters in my collection. And to think I nearly missed with if it wasn’t for Rach  enabling me! (cheers love :D)

Too Faced: Look of Love

I use this everyday-  I have no idea why this is not in my favourites already!! I use it for my main mirror when applying make up in the morning and often use the blush for everyday looks. The eyeshadows are shimmery so I don’t really use them everyday, I like more matte shades for neutral looks.

NARS Blush: Orgasm

Another item I’ve had for a while that I’ve found myself reaching for suddenly. Don’t let the name freak you out- Its a gorgeous peachy/pinky/coral and golden shimmer. It’s not as overpowering as multiple orgasm and it was my first NARS product. The only downside to this blush I would say is the price. My closest dupe I would say is Benefit Bella Bamba.

This console has reignited my passion for PSP titles. With its touchscreen, rear touch panel, cross play with the PS3, “Near” location-based features, 3G,  and/or WiFi and access to a wide variety of PSP & PSP mini titles this console is fully loaded and ready to please!

What was your favourites for Feb? Let me know! 😀

Until next time, have fun :)

January Favourites

Well January has been and gone and its freezing outside. They are even threatening snow this weekend!  (Please excuse this late post but i’ve not been feeling up to much for a few days since Simba…) I’m just hoping we an move on to spring soon. Heck the Easter Eggs are in store.

With Christmas and New Year being such a busy time I skipped over  last months favourites (sorry about that, I hope its allowed being Christmas) so now its time for my first favourites of the year.

Model Mirror

Okay this is a bit of a multi-tasker really, I use it for touch ups in low-light and for a travel mirror. The other use? perfect for use in tight spaces! We use it around the house to plug in cables behind our wall-mounted TV or looking under the bed (nope, no monsters!) I picked up the plain black one so that I can decoden it myself but it comes it a whole variety of styles (check them out here) What’s so special about this mirror? well it has lights built into the top mirror which lights up your face while you look into the bottom mirror.

Kindle 4

Oh Kindle, where have you been all my life? This is one of those items I didn’t know I was missing until I had it! This little beauty comes everywhere with me and is amazing. I know, I know, you’re possibly thinking “but I like to read real books, its not the same, I like the feel/smell of them etc” but the convenience of a kindle far outweighs these in my opinion. If there’s a book i’m thinking of buying, I can simply download a sample. If i’m going on holiday I don’t have to lug a pile of books with me that take up space and weight in my hand luggage. I’ve definitely been able to enjoy more books with my kindle.

Dior: Hypnotic Poison

I’ve loved this perfume since I was in school (when I was given a tester) but never actually owned a bottle until I was lucky enough to get a bottle for christmas! Its a deep, rich scent which as they describe it is intoxicating and I definitely agree. It’s a strong sent but its not an overwhelming strong scent like say “Angel” by Theirry Mugler, it settles in and tones down in a wearable way. Hypnotic Poison combines four extravagant accords: jasmine sambac, bitter almond, moss-jacaranda and vanilla musk.

Estée Lauder: Sumptuous Waterproof  Mascara

This mascara has been a great help for the last few days. I’d picked one up for a holiday in a deal and didn’t end up taking it with me (I opted for a sample mascara I was given instead) but found myself in real need of a waterproof mascara and this is a real godsend.  Lots of tears later and my mascara stays put. The brush slims down at the tip and is great for getting into the corner without smudging, especially on the bottom lashes (which I would normally use my Clinique bottomlash mascara for)  but i’m not sure about the claims on lift and curl – but its still a great  buildable mascara. I originally saw Pixiwoo’s video on waterproof mascaras and this mascara was rated the best of the bunch.

M.A.C. Cosmetics: Taupography Shadestick

And finally my eyeshadow shade of the month! When in a rush this is a fantastic product for some quick colour on the lids twined with liquid or gel liner. The shadesticks are really long lasting on my oily lids and super easy to apply. This shade is now discontinued but I highly recommend shadesticks in general. I’d forgotten I had this as it had slid out of sight until recently but after finding it again I’ve used it a lot this month on its own, as a base and with darker shades too.

So that’s it for January, onto the month of love, valentines and all things hearts and cupids.

Until next time, have fun :)

November Favourites

Hi Everyone! OMG its December tomorrow, ahhh! Some of my friends have even finished their christmas shopping- I feel so unorganised!!! Okay panic over. I’m not sure about you but November has really flown by for me. It’s had its ups and it downs.

Johnson’s Dreamy Skin Night Facial Wipes

I had never tried these wipes out before (in fact I’d not actually seen them before!) so thought I’d treat myself as I usually buy cheaper wipes. With Moonflower aroma known to help calm the senses, these wipes cleanse, tone and remove make-up while leaving the skin feeling moisturised, I was pleasantly surprised  how almost creamy they felt without leaving any sticky residue I find with other make-up wipes. Oh and they are on special in Superdrug atm! 😀

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Best game of the second half of the year in my opinion. I’ve only played about 40hrs so far and it definitely seems like I haven’t even scratched the surface. I picked up the PC version to play it in all its splendour. This game is so beautiful and totally addictive. I’ ve gone down the route of Mage and summon magical beings to aid in combat. I’m married, own a house oh and also a werewolf for now.

Benefit Lipstick in Lady’s Choice

This is a gorgeous nude colour that has found itself in my bag all month as my back-up everyday lipstick. It’s a creamy pink nude which is MLBB (my lips but better) and I’m able to wear it which pretty much any look. The only problem is its seemingly dropped off the Benefit website. Maybe it’s been discontinued? Let’s hope not!

Vaseline Lip Therapy in Cocoa Butter

This essential item is for those cold winter days. I gorgeous friend picked this up for me (you know who you are :D) and its also been in my bag everyday since. It’s the first time I’ve tried one of the other varieties of Vaseline, I normally pick up the original tin. It smells great (being chocolate scented and all) and cocoa butter is well-known for its skin conditioning benefits.

Starbucks Gingerbread Latte Red Cups

Christmas comes but once a year. and with Christmas comes… RED CUPS!! Oh yes. Okay maybe I’m a little over excited for a cuppa coffee but I’m a new member of the Starbucks cult. It’s my first Red Cups season so I’m enjoying it. Out of the flavours this year my favourite has to be the Gingerbread Latte. Starbucks describe this delectable flavour as “The flavour and aroma of a freshly baked gingerbread cookie swirled with our smooth espresso and velvety steamed milk; topped with whipped cream and ground nutmeg.” It’s like christmas in a cup!

So those are my November favourites, I imagine that next months favourites will be more christmas related!

Not feeling christmasy yet? Then check this out 😉

Until next time, have fun! 😀

October Favourites

Hi Everyone! 😀 HAPPY HALLOWEEN! 😀 I hope you’re having a spooktacular time 😉

Meet Me At The Cupcake Cafe

I picked up this book in a deal in WHSmith for something light to read. Okay I’ve not actually finished it yet but I’m enjoying it so far! At the beginning of every chapter there is a recipe so it’s almost like a bake-a-long! 😀 It’s really inspiring me to get baking.

I don’t want to spoil anything so here is the official description: “Ever dreamed of starting over? Issy Randall can bake. No, more than that – Issy can create stunning, mouth-wateringly divine cakes. After a childhood spent in her beloved Grampa Joe’s bakery she has undoubtedly inherited his talent. So when she’s made redundant from her safe but dull City job, Issy decides to seize the moment and open up her own cafe. It should be a piece of cake, right? Wrong. As her friends point out, she has trouble remembering where she left her house keys, let alone trying to run her own business. But Issy is determined. Armed with recipes posted to her from Grampa, and with her local bank manager fighting her corner, Issy attempts to prove everyone wrong. Following your dreams is never easy and this is no exception. Can Issy do it?”

Yankee Candle: Chocolate Bunnies

I’d heard of Yankee Candle before but i’d never tried them, so after watching a few haul videos from foundonfilm and finally smelling some of the sweet varieties at a friend’s house I thought, well, why the hell not? I had a little look online and recoiled at the price but found myself browsing through the SALE section of and jumped when I saw these 2 large jars on sale. I’m guessing that this scent is from an Easter collection, it’s a gorgeous chocolate-y scent without being overpowering. I’ve been burning my first jar pretty much every day since and they will burn for 110 – 150 hours each.

Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer & Pressed Powder

This little compact contains concealer, pressed powder and a handy little mirror. I’ve had a few events to go to for work and this has been a godsend to keep in my bag for concealer emergencies and the mirror is especially great for touching up my lipstick.

Loreal Paris: Super Liner Luminizer in Black Emerald

I came across this liner in Boots on the off-chance and love it. Its black but with a slight hint of green to enhance my green eyes. I wear either black or brown liquid/gel liner every day and wasn’t looking for an all out green liner as I probably wouldn’t use it very often.

Lauren Luke Foundation Brush

After watching Lauren Luke’s video featuring her new line of make up brushes I was curious as to how I could use a domed shape brush as its meant to help you to get right in to all those awkward areas of the face for a flawless finish. From first use this foundation brush has been great for an even coverage and I think it discourages me from using too much product also.

Christmas seems to be full steam ahead now; time for Starbucks red cups, Christmas related sandwiches in stores and wham to be back on the radio.

Until next time, have fun! :)

September Favourites

Hi Everyone! :) It feels strange doing a September Favourites when it’s so darn warm outside; its like a mini Indian summer heat wave out there! It was a nice surprise to come home to after the holiday 😀

Illamasqua Lipstick in Climax

This has slowly become my staple everyday lipstick. I wore it everyday on my holiday and often throughout September. Although the name could be daunting to some, it’s a really lovely natural flush colour. I can’t put my finger on the smell, its been described before as a vanilla frosting smell and its lovely and creamy on the lips. I first came across this lipstick in the flagship store where one of the MAs were wearing it.

Doctor Who Series 6

Okay, okay, yes I’m a geek (:P) but I love meself a bit of Doctor Who. At first at the end of season 4 (specials) when the doctor regenerated to Matt Smith I really didn’t like him-  I loved David Tennant so much and I really didn’t like the look of this new younger Doctor. 2 series later and I’m in love all over again. My favourite character has to be River Song, she rocks! (oh and I just balled my eyes out at the season finale like a small child.)

Chanel Nail Polish in 531 Peridot

If you asked me what was my favourite product from the A/W collections so far it would have to be Peridot. It is the most gorgeous polish I own to date. I haven’t done a NOTD yet (but I certainly will do soon!) but if you have the chance definitely check this polish out. After seeing the colour on launch at my local counter (and nearly fainting at all its glory) the Chanel MA told me it will most certainly be added as permanent colour. Yippee! No stressing about when my bottle runs out. Check out these swatches at my enabler – The Swatchaholic.

Lancome Les Ceillades in Blondette Fatale

I took this eye & brow palette on holiday with me and it was a god send. Compact in size and containing eyeshadows and brow colours has made this my go-to product this month. I often used the shimmery colours for base and contour and the darker matte shade as a liner and crease colour. Check out my previous look using this palette here.

And finally… MiniCards by Moo

The last product of my September favourites is MiniCard by, I totally blame ThePolishAholic for this purchase. I made a set up for my photography site with multiple photos on the back and my information to hand out when I’m taking photos or if a friend wants some pictures taken etc. They are a great cute alternative to full business cards and are great for all different uses. Like the idea but not sure how you’d use them? Check out Moo’s inspiration here.

Now it’s on to Halloween, Paris trip and the run down to Christmas!!

Until next time, have fun! :)

August Favourites

Hi everyone! :) It’s that time again! What happened to the lovely weather I mentioned at the beginning of the month? :( It’s been a bit of a wash out after all. I promise not to jinx it in the future!

The Body Shop Define & Lengthen Mascara

My first favourite for this month is The Body Shop Define & Lengthen Mascara. I received this free with a magazine and as I’d run out of my usual mascara I thought I’d give it a go and I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised! It really lengthens my lashes and is really buildable without looking clumpy or flaky. I normally don’t stray from mascaras I don’t know but with a full size sample I’m glad I took the chance on it.

Nikon D3100 DSLR Camera

My next favourite of the month (and my new baby!) is the Nikon D3100. I’ve been wanting to get a DSLR for many years now since I did a photography module in University and I FINALLY took the plunge. I was a little scared at first and its all new and shiny but I totally love it. So far I only have the original lens that comes with it but I hope to get a zoom lens and maybe a macro one soon. If you’re interested I’ve put some of the pictures I’ve taken on my Flickr page. The very first event I was able to take photos of was my friends Victorian Summer Ball; you can see those pictures here! :)

Urban Decay 15th Anniversary Eyeshadow Palette

This has to be the prettiest palette I own atm (although it’s not easy to tell by this picture) the edge of the palette has a gorgeous lace pattern and on the inside on the lid there is a hugggge mirror! The colours are 15 never before seen Urban Decay shades and they are exactly what I expect from UD eyeshadows – creamy soft gorgeousness! Also when you’ve done with the eyeshadows you can remove them and use it as a cute box! 😀

Vichy Dermablend Corrective Foundation

This foundation is a god send when I have breakouts, (which I have lately :() I first discovered it on Lisa Eldridge’s YouTube video about covering acne which you can check out here (its amazing!). This foundation is so pigmented it’ll cover up any bad spots and won’t break you out more. Lisa’s key to flawless skin was to use a light base on the whole face and to use this foundation on the problem areas. The only problem I found is there is a massive jump in colour from shade 15 to 20, so if my skin is more tanned I only use the tiniest amount of shade 20 to mix, otherwise its way to dark!

M.A.C Mineralize Eyeshadow in Jade’s Fortune

And last but not least is the M.A.C Mineralize Eyeshadow in Jade’s Fortune, this eyeshadow was part of the Semi Precious Collection 2011. I think it’s really gorgeous; it’s much more of a sheer pearled shimmer with mixture of Yellow, Blue, Lime & Black and is amazing when used in a smoky eye look.

So that’s it for this month, on to September and the Autumn!

Until next time, have fun! 😀

July Favourites

Hi Everyone! 😀 It’s time for July Favourites. It seems July was a bit of a wash out weather-wise but come 1st August the sun is blazing!

First up for my top monthly favourites is an app called Instagram. Yes I’m a little late to the party on this one, a friend introduced me to it but I think its fab. What is it? Well:

“It’s a fast, beautiful and fun way to share your life with friends through a series of pictures. Snap a photo with your iPhone, choose a filter to transform the look and feel, send to Facebook, Twitter or Flickr – it’s all as easy as pie. It’s photo sharing, reinvented. Oh yeah, did we mention it’s free?” – Instagram website

The filters are fantastic and its great to see my friend’s photos on the app too! If you have an iPhone I really suggest you try it out :)

Illamasqua: Medium Pencil in Vow

This pencil is a god send when I’m sick and not looking my best (of which I was sick for most of July!). I use it on my waterline and it really opens the eyes and takes away any redness- making me look human again! This shade is for lighter skin tones, so if you are looking for a pencil to use on your waterline but your skin tone is a little darker than you should check out the shade Hex.

Clarins: Crystal Balm in Crystal Coral

At first glance I thought this was a plain old lipstick when I stopped by my local Clarins counter, but on closer inspection I saw it was transparent and in fact a lip balm! I love Clarins skin care but haven’t tried any Clarins make-up before. Lisa at my local counter showed me the 3 colours which are light pink (more clear really), orange (known as coral) and red. I already own red lip balms that stain the lips and I thought the light pink one would be a waste as I have clear lip balms already, but the orange (coral!!) really stood out to me. I tried it on and when mixed with the natural colour of my lips it really does show up coral (hurrah!). It’s the perfect colour for the Summer and encourages me to keep my lips moisturised. Lisa also told me that it was limited edition AND there was a promotion on at the time, it was meant to be!

M.A.C: Blush in Style

I bought a pro pan of Style after disappointedly missing out on M.A.C My Paradise cheek powder that came out in the Surf Baby Collection ’11. My Paradise is a gorgeous peach with golden over-spray but sold out day (morning) one in my local store and online. The MA suggested to me to try out Style; it’s not as bright but it’s still a really lovely coral-peach with gold pearl.

Rimmel: Exaggerate Liquid Eyeliner in Black

This liquid liner is my staple liner product; if I’m in a rush or don’t fancy wearing gel liner I’ll reach for this in a heart beat. I have the brown and black version and use them depending on the look. I can’t stand leaving the house without at least eye liner and mascara on my eyes and the cat eye look is definitely my favourite. The brush itself it felt and stiff (although it has enough give when applying to the eye) which I find easier to achieve the cat eye I want. If I’m after a thin fine line for a cat eye then I’d use my M.A.C 210 precise eye liner brush.

So that’s it for my top 5 favourites of July, seems I’m really into the corals/peaches this summer! let me know what you’ve been loving in the comments below :)

Until next time, have fun! 😀

June Favourites!

Hi Everyone! 😀

So as June has been and gone and we’ve steamed passed the halfway mark of the year its time for my June Favourites! Soon before we know it it’ll will be Christmas (okay sorry I shouldn’t have said that!) Anyway, when I say favourites I mean items that I’ve been reaching for a lot this month. So my top 5 products are:

I picked up the pink one (of course :)) for £6 in June and I have to say it’s sooo handy! It’s a portable perfume atomizer that you fill with any fragrance you like (as long as it has a standard nozzle) and you’ll get 50 squirts out of it.  I’m often  in such a rush in the mornings to get to work I can often forget to apply perfume, but by keeping my Travalo in my hand bag I can apply my favourite perfume on the way! Mine is currently filled with Katy Perry: Purr. You can check out more information about it here.

Seche Vite Top Coat

Okay, okay I know this one is technically cheating as I use it all the time, but I do love it! A staple for any nail polish application. It’s fantastic when it comes to nail art, especially 3D fimo slices. I also picked up the Seche Clear base coat so I’ve been using them together in the hope that products from the same brand will work really well and keep my nails looking good.

Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara

Okay yes, for those of you who haven’t tried it, I know what you’re thinking. This looks like a really silly idea and a waste of money at first (at least that’s what I thought the first time I saw it) but it’s actually a great product I didn’t know I was missing. As it’s now the hay fever season, the waterproof mascaras are out in full force. This bottom lash mascara is cold water proof and really stays put when my eyes water. It also really defines my bottle lashes like no other which is really down to the tiny brush and I don’t end up with product on my skin, bonus!

Maybelline Eyeshadow in Bronze Seduction

This is my early summer eyeshadow of choice this year. The marbled golden-bronze on the right looks stunning when swirled together and applied as a wash over the lid. It isn’t too shimmery and the multiple colours mixed together really gives it dimension. The bronze-brown on the left I use as a crease colour which I love to smoke out or even wear alone with the golden-bronze shade in the corner of my eyes to make my eyes glow. It definitely will look stunning with a natural tan but for now I have to settle with bronzer as I have a “gamers tan” with a dire need for a holiday!

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D

Well it’s not cosmetics related but it’s definitely a favourite this month! As soon I as I switched the game on and heard the theme tune I was hit with the nostalgia. There’s just something about the Zelda soundtrack that turns me into a giggle fan-girl. The original N64 version of this game is known as one of the best games of all time. They’ve completely rebuild the game graphics and I have to say it looks stunning on the 3D screen. The updated control system uses the 3DS’ gyroscope (where you move the console around and/or tilt it – think Wii Remote) to look around and to target things. It works really well when looking around the scenery and gives the game really depth.

July looks to be a busy one but I love how the days are long so it feels like I have more hours in the day and the sun is shining which keeps me smiling! I hope you all have a great July and enjoy the good weather. :)

Until next time, have fun! :)
