    1. Settling down with a glass of wine to read Elaine Bertolotti’s account of her youthful travels in Greece, I felt at home. An odd response to a travel book that recounts her experiences in a country I had never visited. But having read 2 other titles of her “…and Me” series, I knew and trusted the writers’ voice. Also having grown up in Bay Ridge Brooklyn, a neighborhood where several childhood friends were unavailable to play on holidays and Sundays as they spent most of their days in [...]

    2. This is an interesting and enjoyable read, part a travel guide and part a memoir. It is both informative and entertaining. The author shares her personal experience in an easy and approachable manner and covers many aspects of the Greek lifestyle. The book is full of useful information for anyone who wishes to visit the country and it helps to understand the Greek culture. It’s well written, in a straight-forward, easy to understand manner. Additionally, the book includes great, detailed recip [...]

    3. I just can't seem to get enough of Elaine Bertolotti's books and after reading the first two installments in this series: 'Turin and Me, and 'Florence and Me', I had to get my hands on 'Athens and me' (the 3rd installment). Set in the early 1970's about a Brooklyn girl who ventures across the sea to Italy, Greece. Elaine being of Italian descent, and a teacher, eventually adopts this new country and ventures forth (in the beginning) in a some what bumbling manner which brings forth humorous mome [...]

    4. The author, Elaine Bertolotti takes the reader through another often humorous installment of the (and me series). I enjoyed Athens and Me just as much as Turin and Me & Florence and Me. It is plainly obvious from the first page that this author embraces a culture with abandon. She immerses herself in the language, customs and environment, which she describes in great detail, engaging the reader to experience it right along with her. I've traveled abroad and Elaine is spot on about the friend [...]

    5. After reading these memoirs , you’ll surely put Greece on your “must see” list! This book is an interesting and informative account of an American girl’s month spent in Greece. She enrolled in a course in Athens to learn Greek and found that she learned even more than the basics of the language, she learned to appreciate the Greek people and their culture. She and her girlfriend visited the elderly relatives of their friend from the States, in their home just outside the city of Athens. [...]

    6. Having worked in a Greek American elementary school in Brooklyn, I was more than eager to visit that country that everyone at school spoke about. My one month stay In Athens was in the year 1970. My experiences with the Greek Language were often humorous as I tried my best to make myself understood,I was able to meet wonderful people during my stay and the memories I have will be treasured. At the end of the book I added some traditional Greek recipes, I hope anyone who has already visited Greece [...]

I have thoroughly enjoyed everything she has written and this book is no exception. The year is 1970 and Elaine’s adventure in Greece began as she enrolled in a course for the Greek language in the city of Athens. She had been teaching in a Greek-American elementary scho [...]

    8. I’m a Greek and I’m an author. In both these respects I found this book to be particularly helpful. As an author I find that Elaine Bertolotti has a smooth writing style and so the book flows as easily as a gentle stream. She is concise in offering her information to the point. Finally, she has a talent in description whether it be the architecture of a church in Mykonos or the character of a typical young Greek person. She makes you feel you’ve been there. All key points of Athens are outl [...]
