    1. The Tuttle twins, Ethan and Emily, are going on a class field trip. Not any ordinary field trip, but to a factory that manufactures pencils, notebooks, and other school supplies. Carl, a worker at the factory, explains to the children using a variety of materials and resources how pencils are made. It turns out that pencil making is not as easy as one may think! However, the process - the free market in action - is key to understanding how our economy can function best by working together to inn [...]

    2. I loved this one! I'm not sure how I missed out on Leonard Read's "I, Pencil" before, but it is fantastic. This book, based on that essay, not only introduces children to the concepts of economy and division of labor, but it shows how we are all tied to each other and how everything around us is miraculous. It helps us look at things with wonder and appreciate our contributions to the world. The video it refers you to on their website is very well done as well.

    3. Such a great and quick read on economics and the free market for our younger youth. It will even have your children thinking about truly where does everything around them come from "truly" as we all know a pencil is not just a pencil.

    4. The Story- Twins Emily and Ethan are learning about the economy in school. To help the children better understand the entire process, their teacher takes the class on a field trip to a supply factory. At first the kids think it'll be boring, but then they learn that so much goes into the making of just one simple pencil, that it really is a miracle that one exists. My Thoughts- Another score by Connor Boyack. This is a great book that takes a giant idea, the economy, and puts it into terms that c [...]

    5. I read this book with my second grader, and he at first wanted to go to the Cinnamon Roll Bakery, but got interested and laughed when the kids said the outside of the factory looked boring. What a great educational little book this is, very colorful pages that just drew him into the story. He couldn’t believe that all the people it took to make a pencil! He did begin to understand when we read through the story, and it rather clicked with him.He was able to see the correlation, and was putting [...]

    6. Connor Boyack does an amazing job of explaining the complexity of product creation in a way even a 7 year old can understand. It is based on 'I, Pencil' by Leonard Reid, and shows in a simple to understand way just how complex it is to create something as simple as a pencil. This is a must have book for young and old alike.

    7. I won this book from a giveaway. Love the illustrations! Very informative for children- an easy way to explain the economy and how it takes many people to create something. I like how there is a glossary and discussion questions- will use in my future teaching career!

    8. What a terrific story explaining what it takes to make even a simple pencil. A great way to illustrate the free market system and the prosperity it brings. A wonderful book to read with your children!

    9. I read this to my 1st grade son and he really liked this book. It expanded his understanding of the economy and specialization of labor.

    10. what a great story for children thank you so much for picking me for this book i am so glad that i will be giing this to a family member and knowing it is safe for a young person to read
