    1. Another interesting take on Quebec and migration. Choquette is playing off a more famous book called Peasants into Frenchmen in her title. The gist of her argument is that the French people who migrated to Quebec were not backward peasants, and in fact were "modern" because they were disproportionately from urban places and places connected to the burgeoning Atlantic economy.
