    1. The world is unfair. I should have been Pearl. I should have had a cat growing up. I would have been a much happier child. I would have held picnics with my cat. I would have had fashion shows with my cat. I would have grabbed a bite with my cat. Le sigh. Oh, you wanted a review of this book? Well, it was okay. Simple, large text with only 5-10 words per page. Very straight-forward language. ("What else to eat?" "Apples, yum.") Almost like an early reader, but with larger pictures. (P.S. There's [...]

    2. It’s lunchtime, and Brownie and Pearl are ready to grab a bite. The kitchen is filled with tasty treats like apples and crackers and—mmmmm—string cheese. So pull up a chair and join these hungry pals for a happy, healthy noontime feast! With their simple stories, bold, graphic illustrations, and pitch-perfect moments of humor, the books in Cynthia Rylant's acclaimed Brownie & Pearl series are a wonderful choice for babies, emerging readers, and everyone in between!

    3. Super simple - only 5-10 words per page, but with great illustrations. This would be a decent addition to a toddler story time on food, friendship, or cats. Or, a great beginning reader for a cat fan.

    4. Delightful story of Brownie and her best cat friend -Pearl as they prepare a delicious and nutritious lunch!

    5. Brownie and Pearl get themselves some "lunch," although I'd probably label it more of a snack. The foods include string cheese, apples, crackers and milk. Since they are all foods that a young child could reasonably obtain from the refrigerator or pantry and eat with little to no preparation, I suppose they are a decent, fairy healthy representation of lunch (though in the back of my head, my mind is screaming, "Where is her parental supervision?!?") At least she's not eating twinkies and cheesy [...]

    6. Brownie and Pearl Grab a Bite is a story about a girl and her dog having lunch. The story is a short story with few words on the page. The story line is of a girl Brownie and her dog Pearl grabbing some healthy snacks for lunch. These snacks included an apple, string cheese and crackers. This book is short story maybe desinged for beginner readers. In this book, I was most drawn to the colorful cartoon-like illlustrations of the food. I was surprised that the cat's name was Pearl and the girl's [...]

    7. The team of author Cynthia Rylant and illustrator Brian Biggs has given preschoolers a delightful series about a little girl named Brownie and her cat, Pearl. Each entry in the series approaches a familiar situation and makes it relatable for younger children. In Brownie and Pearl Grab a Bite, Brownie and her cat decide what to have for lunch. Brownie would like an apple but Pearl sees it as a red ball that she can roll around on the floor. Decisions are made and lunch is enjoyed by both girl an [...]

    8. There may not be much to it, but Brownie & Pearl Grab a Bite is nonetheless a fun story that should work nicely for preschoolers, introducing them early on to the idea that characters can be carried over from one book to another to make a series, allowing us to get to know and love the characters especially well. Also, despite the brevity of Brownie and Pearl Grab a Bite, both girl and cat come across as having distinct personalities, which is a noteworthy accomplishment. This book could be [...]

    9. Brownie (a little girl) and Pearl (her cat) demonstrate the idiom "to grab a bite" by making themselves a lunch of string cheese, apples, milk, and crackers. The Brownie & Pearl series in which the odd idiomatic phrases "get dolled up," "go for a spin," "grab a bite," "hit the hay," "make good," "see the sights," "step out," and "take a dip" are illustrated and explored is extremely cute and a hit with toddler girls. However, my husband and I find the lack of parental supervision is somewhat [...]

    11. Writing a book for the very earliest readers is harder than it seems. Thankfully, Rylant has YEARS of solid easy reader series under her belt, and she manages to pull it off. Short, spare text set against playful vibrant illustrations make this a great read aloud for toddlers or a great first book for children just beginning to read. Brownie (the girl) and Pearl (the cat) get themselves some string cheese, crackers, and an apple for lunch. A plot that many 4 year olds will readily relate to!

    12. My daughter has all of the Brownie and Pearl books. Although she is almost 10 now and has graduated to reading long novels, she still loves the beautiful pictures and sweet stories of the Brownie and Pearl series. We had many a wonderful story time before bed reading them and they are a treasured collection.

    13. I liked this book.I think early readers will really love it.I just wonder if it would have been better if all the stories were together in a compilation book.I do think it's great that a kid could read the book and feel a sense of accomplishment. The illustrations are very sweet as well.Haiku Review:Brownie and Pearl mustfind something to fix for lunch.what will they decide?

    14. Brownie and Pearl are great toddler reads. Grab a Bite has simple text about food and lunchtime. Great for vocabulary and also cute and funny. Toddlers will recognize foods mentioned and get a kick out of how Pearl plays with her food.

    15. Great early reader for little girls. The pictures are absolutely adorable, the story is cute, and I think I love Brownie and Pearl. Brownie is a girly girl no doubt but she still is up for an adventure! Really liked this one!

    16. Bright illustrations. Simple text. Pair the book with a storytime activity such as the song, "I Like to Eat Apples and Bananas" with accompanying sign language.

    17. Brownie and Pearl prepare a simple lunch.Vegan parents note: the duo eat string cheese and drink cow's milk.

    18. This is a cute story. Great for the very young or beginner readers. Wonderful, simple illustrations. Could be used to talk about what to eat.

    19. Story of a little girl and her cat getting lunch, consisting of string cheese, an apple & milk. Colorful pictures, definitely a preschool book.

    20. I just read this at work while cataloging -- it's really short. And adorable. I see myself in the main girl's spot: a brunette with a barrette hanging out with her cat, eating cheese and crackers.

    21. Mommy review:We both really like this series about a girl and her cat. This was recommended to us by our library friend Mary.

    22. Brownie and Pearl are just so sweetly drawn. This book is no literary masterpiece but I think its a particularly well done preschool age pick, suitable for storytimes especially.
